9:00 a.m. Dadong Arts Center
The Dadong Arts Center has a huge transparent hot air balloon canopy, bringing different light, air flow and color. The traveler standing under the ball looks small, but still excited and has room for improvement. The Dadong Arts Center is a multifunctional art center.
I like its art library, which has more than 100,000 books and multimedia from various countries, covering movies, music, drama, dance, sculpture, painting, calligraphy, and crafts. You can pick a favorite art work and book the audio-visual room, and enjoy an afternoon alone. If you wait until evening, you may also see the film lights and water dance fountain show.
11:00 a.m. Kaohsiung Weiwuying National Arts and Culture Center
The Kaohsiung Weiwuying National Arts and Culture Center is like a white spaceship landing on the grass, bringing amazing art inspiration to people. Inside the Weiwuying building, it is a semi-open public space, but it blocks the road noise, and the music hall, opera house, performance hall, theater, exhibition hall, etc. enhance the acoustic effect, affecting the audience’s different experiences.
The Weiwuying building also keeps the Kaohsiung shipbuilding elements, such as draft scale, ship welding marks, ship steel plate, etc., and Asian elements. Travelers, show your observation and find them!
13:30 p.m. Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts
The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is in the north, and it has been open for nearly 25 years. It is the oldest, but also the cradle of many Kaohsiung artists.
The Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum is not as new as the new building, but the public art works, sculpture park, children’s art museum, and the exhibition topics inside and outside the museum always interact with people. As a senior, the Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum is inclusive, bringing art to life, and making people want to go and get close.
15:00 p.m. ALIEN Art Centre
Contemporary art influences people, such as pop music, drama and film, which extend to the home and street. ALIEN Art Centre combines contemporary art with different senses, visions, lights, music, fragrances, furniture, etc., through the space layout, showing a different cross-time and space ensemble, dislocation or parallel extension, giving new life to art works.
Multimedia sound and light and cross-carrier interaction are also creating a new culture. For people who love contemporary film and music works, coming here will make you see the works from a different perspective.
17:00 p.m. Kaohsiung Music Center / Wave Tower
The Kaohsiung Music Center has a unique hexagonal roof and glass curtain, adding a new look to the harbor. It connects the Kaohsiung Port, the Wave Tower, the Coral Reef Space, the Dolphin Trail Space, and the Whale Bank Platform, as if bringing the underwater world to the shore, creating a magnificent stage on the sea.
With the bay as a backdrop, the Kaohsiung Music Center can play the unique music of Kaohsiung Harbor, and it is the busiest and most lively outdoor art venue. Sometimes it is fireworks, sometimes it is a light show, and now it is a water balloon installation art co-created by LINE stickers and six creators.
19:00 p.m. Kaohsiung Public Library
The Kaohsiung Public Library is inspired by a big tree and a gift box. The huge skylight makes a spacious and bright reading space.
The library has 8 floors and one million books. Turf and plants create a natural atmosphere. You can read the classics or feel like in the forest. It is an ideal place to enjoy books and art, and to relax. Also, after a day of absorbing art energy, Kaohsiung Public Library is a good place to calm down.
Walking along the coastal trail, the Kaohsiung harbor is sparkling, and elegant and sleek streamline buildings are reflected by the warm sun and sea water. The sea breeze blows away the heat, and also brings many colorful art exhibitions and performances.
Looking at “LOVE” landmark and night view on photo, I suddenly want to take a tour of Kaohsiung’s art and architecture one more time!
