The old city area has a nostalgic charm that reveals the reasons behind the rare things of the past. The streets are the same, but the alleys are different. Longchang Street, Korean Street, Costume Street, Little Hong Kong. Wherever you go, you can share memories and feel the romance of coffee and dating. You can’t see the drama at the Red House anymore, but you can still enjoy the weekend market. After the movie, people used to have a hot pot or Taiwan-style beef resaurant.
After a day, I feel walking in Wanhua/Bangka Old Street is quite romantic.

The first coffee shop in Taipei City, Fong Da Coffee was a hot spot for breakfast dates. It has a nostalgic vibe everywhere. When you come here for a date, you must try the traditional Japanese breakfast, with ham, egg, and deep-roasted coffee. Don’t miss the walnut crisp with the old Hong Kong flavor, a rare delicacy that attracts many Hong Kong visitors.
11:00 a.m. Movie Street
The ideal place of the first date in the student days, how long has it been since we watched movies in Xinyi District nor go to Movie Street anymore, it is still the same, with loyal fans lining up for their idols or shows, but behind the movie culture park, the graffiti on the ruined walls remind us of the characters, tones, or styles that we loved years ago. Looking at them, we naturally have many memories to share.
12:00 a.m. Tom’s World Wan Nian Store
Tom’s World is an unforgettable childhood memory of every Taiwanese. The capsule machines or doll areas on each floor are trendy and eye-catching, but I still want to go to the fifth floor of Tom’s World first. When I climbed up the stairs, I heard the loud sound of games! There were basket frames, dance machines, and coins falling. Before you come in, be prepared, you can’t leave in an hour, playing basketball machines, racing, Street Fighter, or dance machines. Playing one round of coins was expensive, but now it feels like a bargain for the joy and achievement.
13:00 p.m. Somebody Cafe
Hidden in the old apartment of Ximending, Somebody Cafe offers breakfast, afternoon tea and coffee shop, Somebody Cafe is full of plants on the second floor. It started from the illustration space, and it was the secret base of the dance clubs or art students after class. The vivid illustrations are still in every corner of the restaurant. It inherits not only the artistic spirit, but also the green life. Sitting face to face, our eyes are full of greenery, how romantic!
15:00 p.m. Dongyi Ribs Main Store
The sign of Dongyi Ribs Main Store is eye-catching, very expensive, and the store is like the 1970s when it opened, retro, gorgeous, and glittering, very entertaining, with many old customers and staff. The signature dish of Dongyi Ribs Main Store is the ribs rice. Now young people eat the nostalgic style, and old customers eat the taste of the boy and girl era! You can also find shrimp rolls rice, curry rice, fruit plates, sundae, and banana boats here.
16:00 p.m. Cho Cafe
A cozy coffee shop in an old house, Cho Cafe preserves the old Ximending style with red bricks, flower tiles, and begonia glass. Roasting master Wang Shiru oversees the coffee from seed to cup. Couples who like vintage objects can chat for hours. You can also book a cupping session and try different flavors, such as floral, citrus, or lemongrass.
18:00 p.m. Nine Days Coffee
The first specialty coffee shop in Mengjia, Nine Days Coffee used to be Mine Coffee with Abe Special, the three-in-one coffee I saw adults drink. The second generation inherited the spirit of self-roasting and raising beans for nine days. They changed the name to reflect their brand value. When you visit the store, you can sit on the street side and drink coffee and chat. If you don’t like Abe Special, you can try their blackberry latte.
How did people date before?
There was no cellphone and no social media to distract them, and fewer lights and signs on the road. They deeply focused on their date. They held hands, talked, and felt their heartbeat.
